Holding an advanced degree that qualifies me to run a major corporation means absolutely squat in this family.
About Us
Me
I am a wife and mom. I hold an AAS in respiratory therapy, a BS in business administration with a minor in healthcare management, and an MBA from a Top 25 program. I'd worked in healthcare for most of my adult life before a shoulder injury put me off of work and made me a stay-at-home mom (temporarily!) to our two boys. I'm a Type-A personality if there ever was one. Personality tests will tell you that I hold myself to very high standards and expect the same from subordinates. I am most at home amid structure that I create. I am the Queen of Multitasking. I unravel with chaos, and nothing is more chaotic than life with these two boys. When I have free time, or when I choose to procrastinate with my obligations, I love to read anything from critically-acclaimed literature to trashy paperbacks one can find at a grocery store. At one point, I also loved to swim, but that may never happen again after the past year. My main vice is designer handbags.
Hubs
Hubs is a man's man. He's a veteran of the Marine Corps, loves fishing and other bits of manliness. He was once a stay-at-home dad to our boys while I finished school. Once my education was complete, he ran back to the workforce and hasn't looked back. I always wondered why he couldn't just treasure all of the time he got to spend with our beautiful sons, but now I understand. He and I are complete opposites. He is laid back next to my uptight. He is country to my city. He is blue-collared to my white-collared. Whatever. It works. In fact, it has worked for almost fifteen years, despite the fact that we were married only two months after we met. When you know, you know.
Big
Big is our oldest son. He is currently thirteen years old and will start his last year of middle school later this year. He was once an indoorsy type of kid, but middle school morphed him into something else. Now he plays football and wrestles. He spends his free time riding his bike, playing video games, or tossing a ball with his friends, who seem to congregate at our house. He is literally a genius with an IQ that makes mine look like I should be drooling in a corner someone, incapable of coherent thought. He also has Asperger's (or what they used to call Asperger's and is now "high-functioning autism"), which causes mainly social issues. That plus the stage in life where little girls are constantly calling our home leads us to some of the most dramatic moments in our home. Oh, and he's pretty high maintenance.
Little
Oh, Little. Little is our baby at just four years old. He is a boy's boy, all rough and tumble, but also one of the sweetest children I have ever met. He was a great surprise. He loves toy trains and dirt, and will try anything at least once. He's the kid you have to walk behind, arms outstretched, waiting for near injury so it can be prevented. He is all smiles and laid back like his dad. His constant search for adventure brings out my crazy like nothing else. I am convinced that he was sent to us by a higher power to teach me, once and for all, that I cannot control everything, but my inner control freak is choosing to rage against the dying of the light.
